CONSERVATION SIGNIFICANCE CONSERVATION SIGNIFICANCE

Given the intrinsic link between the environment and sustainable development, conservation must maintain an equilibrium between human and ecosystem needs. Communities around protected areas need support in the management of natural resources, so that they can benefit directly from conservation, protect water and fuel supplies and better manage human-animal conflicts. Civil society organisations, local and central government and other institutions are also integral to the success of most projects.

THREATS THREATS

The widespread lack of education, good governance, financial resources, conservation awareness, motivation or access to expertise all present challenges, so institutional support and capacity building are built into all our projects.

WCS APPROACH WCS APPROACH

Our institutional support includes working with TANAPA and Wildlife Division’s law enforcement and monitoring work, training rangers, village game scouts, forest guards, community reforestation and beekeeping initiatives as well as helping develop national conservation strategy.
